YW6M Update (Jun 21)

With deep regret and a strong sense of responsibility, we inform the entire amateur radio community that the “Chimana II Island YW6M” expedition, organized by the Grupo DX Caracas, has been officially cancelled.

Despite weeks of logistical, technical, and diplomatic efforts, it was not possible to obtain the required authorization from the competent authorities to land on and operate from Chimana II Island. All avenues of communication were explored, proposals were submitted, and viable alternatives were considered, but no agreement could be reached that would allow the activity to proceed within the current legal framework.

We want to make it absolutely clear that this decision was made solely out of respect for local regulations and authorities, and not due to a lack of will or commitment on the part of our team. On the contrary, our desire and readiness to carry out the expedition remained firm until the very last moment.

We understand that this activation generated great anticipation within the amateur radio community, especially among island chasers and DX collectors. To all of you, we offer our most sincere thanks for the support, trust, and enthusiasm you showed from the very beginning.

Similar situations have occurred throughout the history of international DXing. And with that same spirit, we remain steadfast in our mission to promote and serve amateur radio, and we will continue planning future activations with the same passion and responsibility.

Grupo DX Caracas reaffirms its commitment to the principles of legality, environmental respect, and technical excellence that define our work. While today we must step back with our equipment packed, we do so with our heads held high, fully convinced that we did everything possible until the very end.
