The Pacific Islands DXpedition Group (PIDXG), in partnership with Youth on the Air (YOTA), has announced an exciting DXpedition to Christmas Island (OC-002) under the callsign VK9XY. The operation will take place November 16 through December 4, 2026.
This DXpedition marks a major milestone for the YOTA program. After gaining valuable experience through remote operations on Rotuma (3D2Y) and on-island participation during the PJ6Y Saba DXpedition, the next generation of operators will now take full responsibility for planning, organizing, and operating an international DXpedition.
The eight-member on-island team will consist entirely of amateur radio operators under the age of 25. Confirmed team members include N4ML (Team Leader), W4IPC, NT1S, LY7J, and 7Q6UJ, with the remaining positions to be announced in the coming weeks. Experienced DXpeditioners W0GJ and W6IZT will be on-site to provide mentorship and operational support.
