Tangier Island 2026: IOTA, Quad POTA & RSGB IOTA Contest!

The Island Hopper Group is heading back to Tangier Island for the 2026 RSGB IOTA Contest, along with POTA activations in the days leading up to the event.


📍 Tangier Island is located in the Chesapeake Bay, Virginia (USA) and is part of IOTA NA-083 and Grid Square FM17.


The first operators will be on the island July 22–26, with the rest of the team arriving on July 24. The group will use their personal callsigns for POTA activations and the special contest callsign K4T during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 25–26).


Tangier Island is a Quad POTA destination, featuring four qualifying parks:


  • US-4581 – Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail

  • US-4582 – Washington-Rochambeau National Historic Trail

  • US-4567 – Captain John Smith National Historic Trail

  • US-9935 – Virginia Bird & Wildlife State Trail

In addition, KQ1O, in conjunction with the Island Hopper Group, hopes to make 630 meters more accessible to amateur radio operators with limited space. On Friday evening, Tangier Island will come alive with 630m activity from a brand-new operating location for this unique band.
